If the Book of Ruth seems lightweight fodder for a study group - a little too romantic and undoctrinal, perhaps best left to afternoon groups for exhausted mums - this helpful and short study guide reminds us powerfully of the worth of all Scripture.
Broken neatly into four studies, each containing commentary, investigative andediscursive questions, this volume places emphasis on the book of Ruth in its context, exploring the sovereignty and grace of God in building Israel through the most unlikely characters. This is done through frequent cross-references, which could be daunting for the very young Christian, but still invaluable for understanding the text.
The guide steers clear of imaginative reconstruction, but does encourage independent thought, highlighting stylistic features of contrast and repetition sensitively. The simplicity of questions mean that for group or individual use this is an unthreatening invitation to thoughtful study.
