Lethal Harvest

A novel which helps to explain what stem cell and embryo research involve

Where might science lead?

Lethal Harvest: a novel
By William Cutrer and Sandra Glahn
Kregel Publications. 407 pages
ISBN 0 8254 2371 6

Advances in genetic research are moving at a pace beyond what was anticipated by scientists as recently as the late 1990s. Issues which increasingly hit the headlines are human cloning, designer babies and the use of stem cells from human embryos.

The ethical implications for stem cell applications are enormous. Few 'ordinary' Christians seem familiar with the issues raised and how the Bible and the Christian worldview addresses this wide range of practical, ethical situations. Many of us, out of our depth with these issues, are tempted to leave the experts to deal with all this. While we do so, most people in society embrace an exclusively pragmatic stance rooted in a purely human worldview and as persuasively conveyed by the media.

Obstetrician/gynaecologist William Cutrer observes that: 'While these issues are urgent, they are sometimes less exciting to the average Christian.' In order to address this situation, he and Sandra Glahn have co-authored Lethal Harvest, hoping to enable Christians to understand some of the ethical issues which need to be faced, in the context of an exciting, suspense-packed novel.

You may not known what stem cell and embryo research involve - read this novel and you'll get an explanation, along with a portrait of probable results of this technology. Interwoven in the plot is a clear presentation of the gospel. There's more besides, but to say more here will spoil your own reading of this book!
