It's OK (CD)

New single from Delirious?

The song 'It's OK' is an unusual choice for a single from popular Christian band Delirious?, very unlike their previous rock releases. It's a 'Radiohead' style ballad with a strange feel to it. On the first listening I was left confused, as I was unsure as to what emotions it was meant to stir up in me. I also thought it was lacking in harmony and didn't seem to go anywhere.

However, this song does improve on every listening. The lyrics have a sad tone to them initially over a peaceful if rather depressing chord structure. This leads to the chorus, 'It's OK. You know I'll live to fight another day.'

It was first written as an encouragement to a friend suffering from depression and encouragement is its general message. The overall tone is very resigned. Everything in the world isn't right, but it's OK because there is still hope and peace in God.

In the past, Delirious? have struggled to get radio stations to play their songs, they believe, because of the history of second-rate Christianity rock bands. No one I know has really liked this song on the first hearing, although I know many people who like it a lot after hearing it several times. Whether or not Delirious? manage to have a hit with this song could, therefore, be very dependent on the radio playing it gets.
