'Phillip Johnson could not be boring even if he tried. He is one of the most provocative and independent Christian thinkers of our day. Argue with him, admire him, disagree with him - but read him!' That is Don Carson's view of the author of this little book of essays.
Phillip Johnson is an American lawyer, who since 1988 has spent much time re-searching and challenging the Darwinian theory of evolution. Perhaps his best known book is Darwin on Trial. This present slim volume falls into two sections. There are nine essays about Darwinists and Darwinism, followed by more general essays, mostly book reviews on aspects of law and culture.
In the early section, the author uses his penetrating legal logic to indicate the flaws in the popular theory of evolution, especially exposing the internecine warfare between Richard Dawkins, fundamentalist Darwinianism, and Stephen J. Gould's less dogmatic approach. Some of the material is specific to the US, but essays on the myth of scientific neutrality in the light of commercial pressures and post-modern ideas make fascinating reading later in the book. The whole book is a most stimulating read.
